Today I'm continuing to explore texture in patterns. But today, rather than use a vector texture, I built the texture up using different motif elements at different scales.
For inspiration, I looked at the intricate imagery found in the National Palace of Mafra, Portugal. I noticed a general grid in the flooring, shelves, books and ceiling; and that the grid was broken up by round elements in the coved ceiling, globe and architectural details. I did a version in the natural palette shown in the photo, but in the end decided the pattern was stronger after picking out small details from the books and lighting fixtures.
