I was thinking about stars on this pattern, imagining a starry night in the delightful Góis, Portugal.
In my painting class, the next assignment is to use neutralized color and to create a sense of space, so I decided to work through what that might mean in developing this pattern. I realized that creating a geometric shape and using it as a background was one way of creating dimension. Then I recolored the artwork many, many times to try to understand how color affected the sense of space. In this pattern at least, I came to realize that I needed both the background and a particular color order to give the appearance of depth. In the end, I'm quite happy. It glows!
