Today's pattern goes back to the simple repeating grid with lots of open space. The motif is inspired by the cross and architectural details on the Convento da Sertã Hotel in Sertã, Portugal. The colors come from the blue sky and the earth, stone and ironwork found in the building. It's been updated to be very modern and comfortable while retaining the lovely original stone walls and iron detailing. The nuns had some pretty remarkable views from their rooms.
