Today I decided to add a little texture to my pattern. The Portuguese city of Estremoz is internationally known for its marble. They've got so much of it that almost everything in town uses marble. The buildings are even painted with a whitewash made from ground marble. The city is also famous for its Estremoz pottery dating back to the 16th century.
For pattern and color, I looked at some azulejo tile patterns in deeper, darker colors. From this tile, I found similar shapes and patterns using elements from my original motif. I also used a photo of a slab of marble and bitmapped and vectorized the texture and used it as a textural overlay.
