Following Bonnie's lead on developing a collection around a story I expanded the Backbeat format I've learned on Pattern Observer to incorporate a story line with visual references. Continuing my series on memories, I recalled camping trips that we took when the kids were little and found photos of those days.
I found this photos of daises and used the blob brush to paint the rough shapes of the flowers and leaves which I then rotated, scaled and layered to create the allover daisy floral print. I'm going to work some more on it to add layers of texture to get it to feel more distressed and less precious.
This photo of logs washed up on the beach
inspired this abstracted drawing.
Although I've been working on this off and on for almost a month, I feel like I've just begun the process. I spent almost two weeks doing nothing but drawing flowers and leaves, something that I not only have never done before, but couldn't have imagined I'd ever be interested in doing. Taking this course has gotten me working in completely new ways and I feel like I've just begun exploring where that might lead me.
I feel like the prints need quite a bit more development and the colors feel off. I also want to develop appropriate lettering, which seems like it will be a whole new process to figure out. so I used a free font I found, "Wood Sticks", as a temporary placeholder.
Lots of work to do!
