Arashi Shibori Workshop
Also known as pole-dyeing, we’ll learn to wrap cloth around a pole and using a variety of clamping, tieing and dipping techniques, create different patterns in the indigo dye vat.
We’ll cover proper indigo vat dipping techniques. To learn to create an indigo vat, you’ll want to take the Intro to Indigo Dye Processes Workshop, but it’s not a prerequisite for this workshop. The vat will be set up and ready to use.
We’ll then dive in (yes, you’ll probably end up with blue hands!) and experiment with wrapping cloth around poles to create blue patterned cloth.
Supplies provided:
Indigo Dye Vat
Poles, Clamps and supplies needed for resist techniques
Sample cottons for dyeing
Tea Towel for a finished project
Supplies you should bring:
Something small you’d like to dye (optional, and subject to suitability to the dye process)
Pen and paper for notetaking
Camera (everyone loves to photo their blue hands!)
